Health checks and continence clinics

SBH Scotland offer health checks to adults with spina bifida or hydrocephalus in Scotland. The aim of the health check clinics is to support you to develop a wide range of self management strategies.

The health checks we offer are simple, effective, confidential and are carried out by our nurse in a fully equipped treatment room at our Centre in Cumbernauld.

Potential problems can often be picked up and dealt with to prevent more serious health problems developing. Checks (where applicable) include temperature, pulse, blood pressure, urinalysis, weight, head circumference, advice on skin care, diet and continence management, relaxation and stress management techniques and the opportunity to discuss any issues that may be worrying the individual.

Part of the health check can also be to assess your emotional wellbeing. Many adults who are living with a long term health condition can feel isolated or low in mood and are disinclined to go out or be involved in any social activities.

Don't live locally but would like a health check? Please call us to discuss, there are many different ways in which we can provide an effective service using modern technology. We're here to help you.

If you are interested in having a health check or would like more information please contact Caroline McAlpine on 03455 211 300 or email her.
