Support and Social Groups
SBH Scotland host a range of informal support and social groups every month for all those in Scotland affected by spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus.
Meet new people or catch up with old friends - whatever you’re reason for coming, you’re very welcome.
Family Support Groups - Aberdeen and Fife - Aberdeen Ages 0-18/ Fife Ages 0-9 (plus siblings) – Frequency: Monthly
The Aberdeen and Fife Group have professional crèche facilities where children can play under full supervision. This gives parents a couple of hours to themselves to talk to other parents and SBH Scotland staff members. On certain dates speakers are also asked to attend to give talks on topics suggested by the parents.
Dullatur (Glasgow) Family Support Group – Ages 0-8 (plus siblings). Frequency: Monthly
Open to those from Glasgow and West of Scotland, our Support Workers will lead a play session with the children while parents can get involved in the activities and have a catch up with other parents.
Edinburgh Under 5’s Soft Play Session – Mid-week coffee and catch up for parents while the children play.
Dullatur (Glasgow) Mid Week After School Club – Ages 0-8 (plus siblings). Frequency: Every two weeks.
Open to those from Lanarkshire and surrounding areas. This 1 hour after school club gives children the chance to take part in crafts, music and baking activities with friends.
Dullatur (Glasgow) Youth Groups – Frequency: Monthly. Our youth groups are social meet-ups for young people aged 8-18. Two different groups take place.
‘Coolio’ for 8 – 12 Year olds & ‘Superhero’ for 13 – 18 year olds.
Glasgow Baby/Parent Support Group - Frequency: Monthly.
New mums and dads can find it difficult to meet people dealing with the same issues as them. This group is for parents and their babies to come along and talk and learn with others.
Adult Social Groups
Aberdeen, Glasgow and Inverness – For all adult members who are 18 years and over, these monthly social groups are a great way to meet friends and catch up with old ones. On certain dates speakers are also asked to attend to give talks on topics suggested by the group members.
Glasgow Adults Bowling Group - Braehead Soar
Our Bowling Group runs the second Wednesday evening of the month at Braehead Soar (formally Xscape), Glasgow and we’d love to see new members there. This group is for any SBH Scotland member who is 18 or over.
We pay for you to have 2 games of bowling and the club also gives you the opportunity to meet other members.
Special thanks to volunteer, Brian McCann who administers this group for us.
Please get in touch if you’d like to attend any of our groups. They are open to anyone who is affected by hydrocephalus and/or spina bifida and their family members and carers.
