Seth’s Story
Help children like Seth feel unstoppable
“My Seth shouldn’t ever be made to feel different”
Margaret was like any other expectant mum when she went along to a routine 20-week scan. She was pregnant with her son Seth, when she was told he would be born with Spina Bifida.

“Before Seth was born, I had never heard of Spina Bifida or Hydrocephalus. The first time I heard of them was at my 20 week scan. In 2014, when I was pregnant, everything changed. When I was told that my baby was going to be born with Spina Bifida, my world stopped. At first, I found it overwhelming I questioned ‘What did the future hold for my baby?’
“I just want him to have the best life possible.”
As Seth has grown older, life hasn’t always been easy. He is getting to the age now where he feels different from everybody else. At school, he is the only child in his class with a physical disability, he is becoming more aware of this. He shouldn’t have to feel that he is different.
“As a parent it can be hard and really frustrating”
By donating to Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland’s, who I was
introduced to when I was pregnant, I know we are not alone – you are with me.
You’ve been part of our journey since the very beginning; giving us hope and reassurance.
“He feels he is part of the gang.”
“At the family groups you help fund, Seth has a place where he truly belongs, surrounded by children who understand him, they have similar routines and challenges. Things like needing catheter support aren’t hidden—they’re normal; it is so empowering for him.
We’ve made friends for life.
At SBH Scotland’s groups and outings, the laughter and activities bring real joy, building his confidence and independence.
Now he’s thriving, even playing wheelchair basketball with the Grampian Flyers.”
The gift you give by donating to SBH Scotland’s Summer Appeal is bigger than basketball.
‘We need your support for his next big step’, this year, Seth is preparing for a big milestone — moving to high school.
Understandably, he feels anxious about what that change will bring but thanks to your support, he doesn’t have to face it it
alone.
SBH Scotland’s Marion Hird has been working closely with
Seth, our family, and his new school — making sure everything
is in place to support him through this transition, helping us to
navigate life’s challenges.’

“Your support changes everything”
From those early days of uncertainty, I would never have imagined the friendship we’ve built and to have a place where he can just be Seth.
You have created a place where children feel included. A place children, siblings and parents feel supported and listened to. A place where Seth feels like he is the same as everyone else, a place to just be Seth - a place where he belongs.
“Your gift today will make sure that Seth and children like him, have a place where they belong - thank you..”
Supporting SBH Scotland’s Summer Appeal will help ensure that families like Margaret and Seth’s have the support they need to navigate the challenges they face.
